The Art Deco Inspiration Behind Broken Plate's Jewelry Design

When shopping Broken Plates, you may notice that nearly all of our pieces make reference to an Art Deco inspiration. ”Deco Dagger” is a favorite, seen in both our line of sculptural earrings as well as our Kinetic Necklaces.

Our line of Sculptural Wearables plays with form and light, using repetition to create their 3 Dimensional forms. All Kinetic glass wearables arrive in a customized cushion hinged boxes for the safe sale and storage of each piece.

This piece measures 4” x 1.75” and hangs on an adjustable chain 20” to 24” long. This chain is threaded through a sterling silver tube that supports the individual glass pieces, allowing them to remain kinetic while also securely locking them in place. It should be noted that all orders will come with this sterling silver element, including necklaces ordered with Gold Fill Chains.

This necklace weighs 2.2 oz, the equivalent of a large egg.

Pre-Orders are available for out-of-stock options. Pre-orders ship 6-8 weeks from your order date, with some exceptions for holiday deadlines. Visit our FAQs’ Shipping section for more detailed shipping and pre-order information.

The Era’s bold geometric lines mixed with sophisticated curves and fine craftsmanship provide endless inspiration for adorning our modern lives. We look to architectural silhouettes and patterns of that time to use in repetition as we design any new 3-dimensional form. Capturing these silhouettes in crisp, colorful, glass sheets ensures that the resulting piece will be contemporary while also maintaining a sense of timelessness.

These inspired translucent wearables use repetition to create their undulating forms, designed to move with the body and refract the light at every angle.

Each shape is cut using a CNC waterjet, allowing for each kinetic piece to be perfectly reproduced. After each shape is cut from the surface of our colorful glass plates, they are sanded using diamond-infused abrasives. A trip through the kiln returns each sanded edge to its original glassy shine.
